Siren lessons at Watersong (for Lara)

[bachjones]

 In less than two days Bach had finished the music and text of three different songs. Of course, it was annoying that he had to visit the lair of the beast to make it so, but it was better than the discomfort of not finding what you needed. 

He only wished that he had told Lara that he couldn't do more than one hour a week. Or one hour every two weeks. He wasn't looking forward to two hours of threats, offenses and rudeness, no matter how hot the woman was, how sweet the memory or the sex they had. 

"Time for class!", Bach yelled from the basement. "Ready when you are!"

"I won't. Isn't that a siren thing, skinniness?"

[asharpertongue]

She smiled. "The genetics aren't known - obviously we don't want people poking us with sharp things - but I've never met a fat siren."

[bachjones]

"But you do like the poking."

[asharpertongue]

She looks at him with a raised eyebrow. "If that was a dirty joke then you need to work on your material."

[bachjones]

"I don't joke. Same with lies. I told you this before."

[asharpertongue]

"That's a shame. You've got a great sense of humour for someone that doesn't joke."

[bachjones]

"A moment ago you said my comment wasn't funny."

[asharpertongue]

She shakes her head and laughs. "You're so literal. I actually do find you pretty funny." She sighs and finishes her pizza, leaning back and patting her belly.

[bachjones]

He shrugs. "I guess that's a step up from being mad all the time?"

[asharpertongue]

"Or under a spell. Much better."

[bachjones]

He shakes his head. "We haven't been under that lot of spells."

[asharpertongue]

She laughs. "One was eventful enough."

[bachjones]

"But you can't do that ..magic. Right?"

[asharpertongue]

"No. Susceptible to it though."

[bachjones]

He plays with the empty pizza box. "That's ..that you feel it, right?"

[asharpertongue]

"And can be manipulated by it. There are a few exceptions but we're not immune to magic unless we're warded against it."

[bachjones]

"Right. So you need a paint job to walk around witches."

[asharpertongue]

She laughs. "No. Not at all. Ninety nine percent of the witches here are harmless. And you'll be unlikely to meet the other one percent. And besides, witches are still human. They're as susceptible to us and our influence, as we are to them and their magic."

[bachjones]

"Oh." He chuckles. "Okay, I guess. Was that the last class of today or am I getting homework?"

[asharpertongue]

She chuckles. "If I thought you'd actually work on anything I gave you, I might actually give you homework."

[bachjones]

"What would that even be? Recognize the scale?"

[asharpertongue]

She shrugs. "To try and make yours appear. But if you don't want to then we can wait for next week."

[bachjones]

"When I still won't want it." He sighs. "I appreciate this space and the material, but I'll never be able to give you what you want."

[asharpertongue]

Lara nods. "Maybe that's so. All I'm asking is that you try, even a little, even if it's just with me for now. We can worry about forever later."

[bachjones]

"Try to grow scales."
